The video is lengthy at nearly 10 minutes, so right here is a short break down:
:00-2:ten : Introduction, keypad operation, and some speedy fixes to concerns that I had upon delivery
2:10-End : Tear down and display of door locking hardware, discussion of security concerns

I bought this safe to retailer a loaded handgun for somewhat rapid retrieval, and I am going to depart from a quantity of the reviews here in that I am not convinced of how secure this safe is. It is unquestionably alot more secure than keeping the gun in an unlocked desk drawer or the like. It's also substantially bigger than a handgun and hence extra troublesome to hide, so it could attract attention. The information and facts that I deliver below and in the video is to educate you if you did not know it already (like I did not when I bought this), just so that you can make an informed purchase. This safe may be excellent for you, or it might be completely inadequate.
If your goal is to keep young children out, then I'd recommend this secure and call it a very good value assuming that you are intelligent about hiding the keys from your children. Young youngsters shouldn't be able to get into this secure.
If your purpose is to maintain teenagers or thieves out, then my recommendation begins to drop assuming that your teenagers are something like I was when I was that age - inquisitive, interested in solving puzzles, and with some spare time. Beneath are some things to be conscious of just so that you know about them (I didn't know any of this until I spent about 30 minutes on the web and YouTube, so it's out there for your children and crooks to come across swiftly and simply).
Potential Security Concerns:
- Security Code Reset: There are strategies to reach the reset button to the dialpad from outside the secure, giving somebody entry into the secure without being aware of the code. In the video at about the 8:30 mark, I show how to use a twist-tie to defeat this attack.
- Lock Selecting: This secure can be opened with a single crucial that overrides the keypad, meaning that there is a single lock to pick. You (and any person) can research on the net how to pick this type of lock, and you may possibly be shocked how quick it can be. You can disable the crucial function by removing component of the mechanism inside the door, but then you danger locking your self out.
- Safe Bouncing: This is the process of opening this kind of safe by imparting a shock on the door (e.g. with a hammer). I show in the video the basis of how this works. From what I saw in the mechanism when hitting the door, it looks like it would be potential with this safe. However, in fairness to this item, I admit that I have not yet gotten this to work on this secure. [UPDATE 2011/02/09: Following a couple of minutes of practice tonight, I bounced the safe with a rubber mallet. It was not challenging at all, so just be conscious of it.]
That stated, it is probably wonderful for keeping out younger young children - and there are some good attributes.
Pros:
- The beeping on the keypad can be disabled. That's honestly great
- Pretty modest and can be placed on a shelf in a closet or pantry
- Can be bolted to the surrounding structure (on the bottom and/or back face) and comes with the bolts
- Comes with the batteries for the keypad
- Comes with two copies of the important implemented to override the keypad in case the batteries are low or you forget your code
I had some concerns when the secure was delivered but here are some simple fixes for a few shortcomings that you might encounter, also:
- The shelf is held in spot by two (one on each and every side) plastic inserts. My safe arrived with a single of the plastic inserts broken, and the shelf was rattling around as I unpacked it. Given how it was packaged (and how delivery corporations transport goods), I wasn't suprised. I secured the shelf in spot very easily with a twist-tie.
- The door was loose when closed and would clank (it is metal on metal, right after all) when I touched the dial or entered my code. Not what I want when attempting to be covert. The two bumpers on the door were overly compressed (perhaps throughout shipping), and I replaced them with extra solid bumpers that I had purchased at Property Depot for my kitchen cabinet doors (equivalent to these). The door is good and snug now.
Overall, nicely worth $60-$70 for piece of thoughts with young youngsters. I do not suggest relying on this to preserve out a burgler or inspired teenager, even though.
UPDATE 2011/08/07: I want to give a hats off to Stack-On. Whilst attempting out a way to make this a bit much more secure, I damaged the circuit card inside the door. I contacted Stack-On, told them it was my fault, and asked how substantially it would cost to get a new one. They promptly replied that they'd send me a further one for totally free (not even a charge for shipping). Completely unexpected and considerably appreciated - that is outstanding service, IMO. It arrived within a week and works perfectly. Thanks, Stack-On!

If you happen to be searching for a house secure to shop valuables and significant papers in, this is a superior choice. It has offered holes in the bottom and the back of the safe to either mount to floor and/or wall. The capability to turn off the beeping keypad is a benefit for those looking for a place to shop a weapon for emergencies.
As other people have mentioned, this is not a "fire" secure - it is a theft secure. If you are seeking for a thing to defend your possessions in case of fire, appear specifically for a fire secure.
This safe comes with keys that will open the safe utilizing a hidden keylock in case the battery dies. Also, an LED will let you know when your battery is obtaining low.
Of all the safes in this price range, this appears to be the preferred bang for the buck. Also, at 30 shipping weight - free super saver shipping from Amazon is a plus!
