Consumer Critiques

There are 3 sets that are almost identical, and differ only in the type of camera: this one (hidden camera), the outdoor starter kit, and the indoor starter kid. for alot more extensive evaluations, appear at those other kits as properly.
As for my opinion, this set does what it says it does in a quite seamless style: you install the computer software, plug the camera into the wall, plug a USB adapter into the wall and your computer, make some minor configuration adjustments and you are all set. I have no doubt we could have gotten a improved process less expensive but not a single as seamlessly integrated.
We looked at lots of diverse systems and bought this 1 rather considering that:
- most spy cams broadcast for Television...you then need to have a Tv/VCR to record, or a separately purchased adapter to make it work with your pc, and we weren't technically confident sufficient to want to buy various pieces and figure out how to get them operating together
- some spy cams are self-recording (they contain memory internally) but these tend to be pricey AND they limit how substantially you can record they will fill up if you don't clear them out routinely, and for our purposes that wasn't practical
- most "wireless" spy cams work on a WiFi wireless network, which is fantastic if you have one, but we wanted this for use in a spot we did not have wifi this 1 works by transmitting over your property or office electrical method.
- the price of the system consists of a webpage you can set up to view your camera remotely (while if you have a firewall you'll only be in a position to watch three minute pieces if the program can connect directly, which may require configuring your router which some people will uncover daunting, you can watch continually).
So, that said, right here are some cons:
- only operates on PCs, not macs
- 95% of the configuration is a piece of cake, but some aspects are confusing, like how to schedule alerts, and setting up for emailing alerts
- the plan has many capabilities that are in the system but you can not click on them -- they are there as advertisements for a "platinum" version of the software that fees $80 a year. It is annoying to have a screen full of buttons you aren't in a position to click, and to have marketing be such a prevalent portion of the interface
- this one is kind of petty, but it would be great of the clock that hides the camera had an alarm, because we had to take away a "actual" clock in place of this one particular
- the camera is fine for security, but the image is sort of strange - it appears to be infrared? Which signifies the colors are bizarre. Reds turn yellow, greens and blues turn white. Which is quite possibly fine for security purposes, but don't be expecting to get a high excellent video out of it

I've had this process for about 2.5 years. Overall, I'd have to say its hit and miss. Somedays it works, some days it does not. Which means the cams go offline a lot and you have to reset the cams, reboot your personal computer, or restart the command center. This occurs about when a week at least. And of course, this seems to take place when you actually have to have it (traveling, etc).
I've also had to replace two cameras soon after a year. WARRANTY is only beneficial for a year on these and they are expense! I have 5 cams in total. The client service staff is very useful but they only have a handful of tricks up their sleeves (reboot, restart, unplug). So few, I know them by heart. My newest camera hasn't worked correct due to the fact I purchased it here 3 weeks ago and now I'm thinking about junking the whole set up. That stinks considering that I've invested so considerably time and money.
Word of assistance--just don't consider it will be upkeep free. It is a lot of function to keep it operating, and you will often have to live with not every cam operating adequately (especially the spy cams--they give me the most difficulty).
