This alarm is terrific if you are in an apartment. For a home I would spend the capital to have the complete house wired, but for apartments, it does the trick. Place 1 on each and every window/door and forget about the $100's in gates and bars. I refuse to be the prisioner in my personal abode with gates and bars on the windows... I live in NYC. This alarm is loud and the batteries can be tested devoid of setting it off. If you have old wooden windows it may perhaps not line up adequately but you have a half inch deviance to play with before it activates, but most of the windows in NYC are energy efficent aluminum double glass..so for $6.06 every single they are a bargain. I very suggest it for apartment living.
GE tends to make incredibly superior and LOUD Window Alarms. The purpose for the low rating is that the item on the image is not the item that is getting shipped. Beware of this truth. The 1 on the image is a substantially way more secure model since the "on/off" switch is inside of the battery compartment. This design tends to make it challenging for somebody unfamiliar with the device to turn it "Off".
The item that was shipped is also a "GE" Window Alarm, even so, a fully diverse and less secure model. Whilst it has an "Alarm/Chime/off" switch, it is clearly labeled on the outside of the device. Based on your window, you could basically see the "Off" label from the outside of the window. This makes it tremendously effortless for any person to disable the alarm before any individual is able to pinpoint the source of the sound. You would want it to make noise long enough to discover the noise and its place.
The product that arrived tends to make for a quite excellent Chime. The "Chime" is new on this model. When switched to this mode, it makes a single "Dinnngg/Donnnngg" sound when activated - fantastic for Dorm Rooms or to make sure you hear youngsters opening a window or door. Yet, the external and labeled controls on the outside of the device make this a very poor "alarm" that can be as well-easily disabled.
