These exclusive, long-life prefilters are designed by MSA for respirator users. Their exclusive 'Hawley'design features deep circular pleats which extend the quantity of filter loading on the filters, allowing respirator users to continue their spraying jobs or projects with out the want to continually stop to replace the prefilter. These prefilters are replacements for use with 294.9485 Replacement Cartridges, which fit on all MSA Security Operates twin cartridge respirators.This respirator is approved by NIOSH under the NIOSH 42 CFR 84 respirator certification regulations. This Paint Pesticide respirator is authorized to the R95/OV category. Applications: Painting/spray painting (except urethane paints), Stripping paint/lacquer, Applying pesticide/fertilizer.

I did not realize how much damage I was doing to my lungs when spray painting and utilizing a easy dust mask. This respirator filter not only kept out the undesirable stuff but the smell as nicely.
These are affordable, sacrafitial filters that save your canisters. I very recommend them. Just do not try to clean them. They will fall apart if you try to wipe them or blow compressed air at them. They are not meant to be cleaned. They are sacrafitial.
I removed them soon after 3 days of interior home paint spraying and the canisters they guard still looked like new on the inside. These prefilters took the bullet. And I definitely believe that I could have gotten even extra time out of these pre-filters had I just left them on, but the job was over and I wanted to leave all my tools clean and prepared for the subsequent job.
If youre in a dusty or "painty" location and you happen to be gonna wear the reusable masks with canisters like I do then these will save you capital by not having to replace the canisters as often. Without a doubt wothwhile.
